The Journal is our way of reflecting and sharing the beautiful, complex, nuanced and challenging intersections we experience as people from the Global majority and allies open to different perspectives, learning and advocating.
In an increasingly censored digital world rife with shadow bans, deep fakes and misinformation, we need media that reflects, celebrates and holds space for these multi-faceted experiences.
That’s where the Journal comes in.
The Journal
Created by The Study Group, the first issue of TQTB’s Journal came out in 2020 in Amsterdam in the midst of Black Lives Matter and Covid-19.
The world was irrevocably changed.
The theme ‘New Ground’ rang true as the world grappled with the idea of the new normal.
Refreshing, daring and rooted in lived experience, the Journal came as the print publication to highlight this global shift in culture, politics, art, identity and expression.
Issue 002, ‘A Sense of Home’, came out in 2022 making waves in Amsterdam, London, Lagos to name a few.
Asking creatives and thinkers from around the world what home meant to them at a time of unknown, the Journal was growing to answer the need for independent thought and celebration of cultures erased by the mainstream.
Issue 003: coming January 2025
Due out January 2025, in Issue 003 ‘Advocates + Allies’ we share perspectives from individuals, collectives and institutions fostering collective liberation and divestment from damaging systems through their voice or work.
At a time where the necessity of community and dialogue is so acute, we hold space for those committed to social change and explore what advocacy looks like for makers and thinkers around the world.
This edition of the Journal shows the fruits of an important period of reflection as we:
- Introduce the Solidarity Economy model to readers
- Double the number of stories and pages
- Collaborate with a Guest Editor for the first time
- Share a new brand and visual direction
